1. Tower of London:
Start your adventure with a trip to the Tower of London, a historic fortress that stands proudly on the banks of the River Thames. Explore its ancient walls, royal chambers, and the dazzling Crown Jewels exhibition, delving into England’s rich past and tales of royalty, intrigue, and imprisonment.
2. Buckingham Palace:
Witness the Changing of the Guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace, the official residence of Her Majesty The Queen. Marvel at the majestic façade and manicured gardens, and immerse yourself in the regal ambiance of this iconic landmark.
3. The British Museum:
Step into a treasure trove of global history and culture at The British Museum. Admire the vast collection of artefacts, including the Rosetta Stone and the Elgin Marbles, which provide insights into the world’s diverse civilizations.
4. Covent Garden:
Indulge in the vibrant atmosphere of Covent Garden, a lively district teeming with street performers, boutique shops, and exquisite eateries. Savor delectable cuisines from around the world and shop for unique souvenirs crafted by local artisans.
5. The Shard:
Ascend to the top of The Shard, London’s iconic skyscraper, for panoramic views that stretch across the city’s skyline. At the highest public viewing platform in the capital, you’ll be mesmerized by the breathtaking vistas that showcase London’s dynamic beauty.
In fact, it is the tallest building in Western Europe and you can go way up to a viewing platform on the 69th floor, that lets you see for up to 40 miles.
There are a few classy restaurants and bars up here where you can enjoy a fabulous view of London over a meal or a drink. The main viewing platform here is twice as high as any another vantage point in the city.
6. Camden Market:
Explore the bohemian charm of Camden Market, a hub of creativity and alternative culture. Roam through eclectic stalls, offering vintage fashion, handcrafted jewelry, and quirky artwork. Savor international street food and immerse yourself in the artistic spirit that defines Camden. You will find Camden market especially good for buying retro clothing and music. You can even get here by canal on a cool boat if you like.
7. The River Thames – Southbank:
A good idea is to head down to the River Thames next to the Houses of Parliament. If you come here during the peak tourist time you might find that it is insanely busy. In this case, you can cross over Westminster Bridge to the other side of the river, to the Southbank, to see if it is any quieter here.
On this side of the Thames you will find the London Eye. If the queues to go up in one of the capsules aren’t too bad then you can get an amazing view of the city from here. You also get a fantastic view of the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, and Big Ben from this side of the Thames.
If you want to spend more time along the river, you can walk along the Southbank to Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, Tate Modern, and Tower Bridge or even go on a city cruise. All in all, this is a fantastic place to explore from.
8. Downing Street
The Prime Minister’s house at 10 Downing Street isn’t as impressive as you might imagine it to be, but this iconic building sits on the road from Westminster to Buckingham Palace so is well worth adding to your list of places in London to visit. You might even see a famous politician or reporter around here. After this, you get to lovely St James Park, before reaching Buckingham Palace.
You will surely recognise this building instantly, even if you don’t spot the usual throngs of tourists outside it. There are a number of Tube stations here, making it easy to get back to your hotel or to carry on seeing new places.
9. The Many Magnificent Parks
London is a big and highly developed city but it isn’t all about concrete and big buildings. There are also some brilliant parks here that you should spend some time in.
Apart from St James Park, you can also go to the giant Hyde Park. Green Park and Regents Park are among the other best green spaces in central London. There are places to go for a stroll, have a picnic and watch the world go by. You can take it easy in the parks for a spell before getting back out into the action on the streets. These are also good places to take a step back and look at your travel planner London ideas and work out your next move on places in London to visit next.
